Ginseng Vitality Tea

"Support your physical health and stamina with our Ginseng Vitality. We draw upon Ginseng and Eleuthero, traditionally used to help soothe the effects of stress and to maintain overall well-being. We then add Astragulus, a key herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine for supporting immune function and Organic Honeybush, which supplies antioxidants that can help your body fight the effects of aging. The earthy flavor of these herbs is complimented with sweet Licorice along with spicy Cinnamon and Ginger."

In last week's blog, I talked about why I'm quitting coffee for good! This week I want to share with you an herbal tea that gives me a boost (okay NOT as much as coffee!), but I find it helpful AND it's actually good for you!

The herbs Ginseng, Eleuthero, Astragulus, and Licorice that are used in this tea are in a class of herbs called Adaptogens. This means that they strengthen the body's response to stress and enhance it's ability to cope with anxiety and fight fatigue. According to Wikipedia, plant adaptogens are said to stimulate the nervous system by mechanisms which are totally different from those of conventional stimulants. In other words, while caffeine and other stimulants actually create the stress response in the body (telling us that we're running from a tiger) which is definitely not good for our health - especially our adrenal health - these adaptagenic herbs are not only energizing but also help us adapt to stress and support our adrenals.

On top of all that good stuff, I find the sweet and spicy flavor of this tea quite satisfying as a healthy alternative to caffeine.

* Please note that none of these herbs (or caffeine for that matter) are recommended for people with high blood pressure.

You can usually find Yogi Teas at your local health food store for approx. $5, but I usually just add several boxes each month to my online Vitacost order where it sells for $3.39. If you don't already use a discount supplement supplier, check out Vitacost. They have over 30,000 health and wellness products, including vitamins, supplements, herbs, personal care products, organic foods, and more; and it's all way cheaper than the health food store! If you decide to check it out, you can register through my link and we'll both get a $10 off coupon!
